The different types of wooden pallets and their uses
Wooden pallets are flat structures that provide a foundation for storing or transporting goods. They are made from a variety of materials including wood, metal, and plastic. Typically, pallets are flat and horizontal, which make them easier to stack, move, and load. Often, the goods placed on these pallets are much heavier, which requires the use of machinery to move the pallets like forklifts and pallet jacks. There are different types of wooden pallets available in the market. Here is a list of the different types of wooden pallets along with their uses:
    1. Two-way entry pallets: These pallets have entry openings on two sides for the forklift forks. They are ideal for use in closed-loop systems where the pallets are returned to the supplier after use.
    1. Four-way entry pallets: These pallets have entry openings on all four sides of the pallet. They are versatile and can be used in open-loop systems where they are not returned to the supplier after use.
    1. Block pallets: These pallets have blocks between the top and bottom decks that provide additional support for heavy loads. They are ideal for use in closed-loop systems where they are returned to the supplier after use.
    1. Stringer pallets: These pallets have stringers between the top and bottom decks that provide additional support for heavy loads. They are versatile and can be used in open-loop systems where they are not returned to the supplier after use.
    1. Solid deck pallets: These pallets have a continuous single, large sheet of plastic, wood or metal without any gaps or spaces. They are very easy to clean and transport and mainly used for the transportation of small objects.
    1. Open deck pallets: These pallets have gaps between the deckboards which makes them lighter and less expensive. However, they cannot be used to ship smaller items because they’ll slip through the cracks.
    1. Presswood Pallets: Presswood pallets can be customized into different shapes and sizes to match the goods they’ll be transporting.
  1. Plywood Pallets: Plywood Pallets are made from thin layers of wood veneer that are glued together with adjacent layers having their wood grain rotated up to 90 degrees to one another.
Different types of wooden pallets have different uses depending on their design and material. For example, block pallets are ideal for heavy loads while stringer pallets can be used for lighter loads. Solid deck pallets are mainly used for transporting small objects while open deck pallets cannot be used to ship smaller items because they’ll slip through the cracks. Presswood Pallets can be customized into different shapes and sizes to match the goods they’ll be transporting. Plywood Pallets are ideal for shipping fragile items as they provide more protection than other types of wooden pallets. I hope this blog post has been informative and helpful in understanding the different types of wooden pallets and their uses. Wooden pallets are an essential part of the supply chain and logistics industry, and choosing the right type of pallet can help improve efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize damage to goods during transportation. It is important to consider the type of goods being transported, the distance, and the mode of transportation when selecting a pallet.
